About Us

I, Jennifer Burns, created this website as a way to share my passion for literacy with others.  It is hardly without input though from my colleagues, sisters and friends who guide me.  You should and will feel their (and your) presence as we work together.

When it comes to learning, I LOVE IT!  Seeing the eyes of a child light up as they figure something out drives me forward.  Our eyes should light up too as we find new ways to elevate our teaching.  There is such a joy in challenging oneself.

I have been a teacher in lower elementary for 21 of my 25 years in education.  The entire time I have gone to conferences, received my masters as a reading specialist, trained in Reading Recovery, trained in Comprehensive Intervention Model (focused on Guided Reading K-8), and taught hundreds of students.

My work with teachers, literacy coaches and principals has given me experiences with training in guided reading, Kindergarten PLC's, Kindergarten literacy trainings, working with ESL teachers, running a group for literacy coaches around literacy, and running school wide child study teams (to identify ways to move the trickiest to teach students).  I found a true passion in helping and working along side of teachers, coaches and principals.

My work as a wife and mother anchor me in ways that keep me grounded.  I love to read, write, kayak, run, walk and watch my children in their sports.  My husband and I love a great coffee shop or the home town breweries.  It is our Saturday morning ritual to head out in search of a new place to relax.
