Creating engaging readers isn't as simple as people say.

Jennifer Burns

Hi, I'm Jennifer

A bit about me...

I’ve spent 30 years in education, and I still get excited about helping teachers create classrooms where reading feels real, connected, and joyful. I started out as an elementary teacher, moved into reading instruction and training, and now I work as a literacy consultant, author, and curriculum designer.

I believe literacy shouldn’t live in a silo. Reading can flow into science, social studies, and writing (a skill I worked hard to master). Literacy stations shouldn’t feel like “extra work” — they should grow naturally from whole-class teaching. And independent work? That’s where we see the power of scaffolding and student agency.

If you care about meeting each student where they are, if you love those “aha” moments during independent work, or if you just want to feel more confident about your reading block — you’re in the right place. I’ve worked with thousands of teachers, and I’m still learning right alongside you through courses, conferences, and deep conversations with colleagues.

Outside the world of education, I’m a wife, mom, grandma, friend, reader, walker, and waterfall-chaser. I run on coffee, curiosity, and a deep belief in the power of great teaching.

So welcome — I’m really glad you’re here. Let’s keep growing together.

~Jennifer
