Consider how you teach students to increase their ability to handle more complex books!

I think we all agree that you should gradually increase the complexity of learning so that students take on a little bit more each time.  Text levels (approached correctly) can do just that.  I will help you consider key ideas/tools that you can use at each level!  You will no longer just select a text based on a its leveled label and HOPE that if you keep doing this they will move to the next level.  You can learn to be much more intentional.

My Passion

It all started for me about 20 years ago when I had a kindergartener that I couldn't "crack."  I wished I knew more about how to help her and others grow their reading skills.  I am leaning on the words, I wished I knew!  Because that set in motion a mission and passion to learn.
I trained as a Reading Recovery Teacher Leader, trained in guided reading and took every post masters course I could in reading.  I loved every minute of it!  I began to share it with kindergarten teachers, coaches, classroom teachers - and pretty much anyone who will listen.  Just ask my friends - they will tell you.
Then I went back into the classroom to fulfill my dream of teaching kindergarten with this new found way of knowingIt was fantastic to teach with this confidence!  My students SORED!  They were reaching end of the year benchmarks mid-year.  It was the way I taught letters, sounds and book reading.  They were excited to read and our day was filled with volumes of reading.  So, why am I sharing this with you?  Because I took a pledge with myself to share as much information as I can with my fellow teachers.

Title Reading Teacher

“I just thought it was just it is for is for building kindergarten readers but actually it shaped a lot of how I am going to go forth with my kindergarten through third grade readers.  The content in it is specific for kindergarten but I’m noticing that I have third graders or second graders with gaps and I’m using those strategies and I’m thinking differently.”
